Did you know that nothing happened between 3 and 13 September 1752? In September 1752 the Julian calendar was replaced with the Gregorian calendar in Great Britain and its American colonies. The Julian calendar was 11 days behind the Gregorian calendar, so 14 September got to follow 2 September on the day of the change. The result was that between 3 and 13 September, absolutely nothing happened!

The calendar switch also influenced the way George Washington’s birthday is celebrated. He was born on 11 February 1731, but the anniversary of his birth is on 22 February because of the 11 days eliminated from the calendar switch. At the same time, New Year’s Day was changed from 25 March to 1 January, thus according to the new calendar, Washington was born in 1732. The first Roman Calendar (introduced in 535BC) had 10 months, with 304 days in a year that began in March. January and February were added only later. In 46BC, Julius Caesar created “The Year of Confusion” by adding 80 days to the year making it 445 days long to bring the calendar back in step with the seasons. The solar year – with the value of 365 days and 6 hours – was made the basis of the calendar. To take care of the 6 hours, every 4th year was made a 366-day year. It was then that Caesar decreed that the year begins with the 1st of January.

In 325AD Constantine the Great, the first Christian Roman emperor, introduced Sunday as a holy day in a new 7-day week. He also introduced movable (Easter) and immovable feasts (Christmas). In spite of the leap year, the Gregorian year is about 26 seconds longer than the earth’s orbital period. Thus the beginning of the third millennium should have been celebrated at 9:01pm on 31 December 1999. But considering that the Gregorian calendar starts with Year 1, and not Year 0, adding 2000 years means that the third millennium started at 21h00:34s on 31 December 2000. However, because Dionysis Exeguus – the 6th Century monk whose task it was to pivot the calendar around the birth of Jesus Christ – miscalculated the founding of Rome by about 4 years (and left out the year 0), the TRUE THIRD MILLENNIUM actually started on 31 December 1995.

Slumdog is nominated for 8 Oscars and The Dark Knight is also competing with Slumdog. I liked The Dark Knight more compared to Slumdog. Slumdog looks a simple movie with some good editing and the music also looks pretty decent but not that good. The Dark Knight music is better compared to Slumdog. Heath Ledger is going to win the Oscar for the best supporting actor award for his role in The Dark Knight as the Joker. I guess Slumdog will win 3 to 5 Oscars. Wish The Dark Knight wins more Oscars. It is also nominated in many categories and the movie is really good. All will love to watch it again and again and the music is really nice to hear. We’ll come to know the results pretty soon.

It is very old but still my favourite ad. I saw this years ago in tv and that too only once. But it caught my attention. I have been searching this for a long time and it was impossible for me to find this ad as I saw this only once but had no idea as to which company’s ad this was. I knew only one thing that it was an ad for a car. Hope you like it.

The next series of powerpuff girls is the powerpuff girls z where the three girls (bubbles, blossom and buttercup) are elder and are mature. They are also good looking. I haven’t seen this cartoon yet but I think it will be as good as the old series of powerpuff girls where the three are very young and naughty. I think they are the same in this too. They are the same naughty girls as they used to be and also more powerful now. I have to see this and only then can I comment on this cartoon show.

He tries to create three nice little girls but accidentally adds chemical X into the compound solution and that results in three most powerful and charming girls. Their mission is the save the city from criminals. They face some fierce criminals like Mojo jojo, Amoeba boys and many other enemies. But it is their unity that keeps them go on and win against every criminal. Though they fight among them now and then, they finally unite to fight for justice. Harry Potter is a fiction written by J K Rowling and was released years ago. The book got famous soon after its release but became world wide famous after the first movie was released based on this book. The first movie created lot of hype and it became a big hit among children. It created huge hype for its other series of movies and also for the other books in its series. There are totally 7 books and this is the first one in those 7. It is really a nice book to give a shot. Do read it when you get time (if you have not yet read).

Lord of the Rings was written by Tolkins long back and the movie was taken based on this novel some years back. The movies also created many records and it equalled the record of winning the most number of oscars won by an individual movie (11). This was created by the third and final movie in this trilogy. The first movie was Fellowship of the Ring and it was a hit the moment it was released. The movie was directed by Peter Jackson and the remaining two movies also were directed by him. He hails from New Zealand and most of the shots were taken there only. The beauty of the country can be felt in this movie.

The story is about one ring that rules all other rings. This ring was created by an evil. But during the battle, he lost his ring and it then was carried by many. It always seeks its creator. So in this book a Hobbit tries to save the world by destroying the ring. The only way to destroy the ring is to throw it into the lava of the volcano which is deep inside the enemy region. The first book talks about the way he try to get into the enemy region with some help from eight other companions. This group of 9 forms the Fellowship of the Ring.

Ben10 is a new cartoon series where a small boy gets hold of a wrist watch kinda gadget with which he can transform himself into 10 different super power characters who all look like some alien. He then faces lot of criminals and most of them came to earth in seek of the gadget to get the power of the gadget. But Ben (the kid who has the gadget) tries to stop them from destroying tyhe earth or get hold of the gadget with helop from his grand father and another small girl. This is the theme of the cartoon. The ten characters are designed in a good manner and are well balanced. Tehy each have unique characteristic and are considered as equal. It is a must watch cartoon.
